About 25 years ago,( maybe even longer), in a land far-far away, Spock got lost. Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise was without their intelligent, sensible, green blooded, pointy ear friend. If my memory serves me right, he awoke when new Genesis was taking place. Very Science-fictiony. Geeks loved it, back when it wasn’t cool to be a geek. Spock’s awakening to his “new” self was remiss of something,.. Spock didn’t know he was missing. He had a feeling he had been disconnected from something, but it was a distant memory settled in some sort of cosmic fog. He wasn’t too upset either ( the Vulcan in him probably prevented that). The rest of the crew were astonished at this disconnect, and embraced Spock as the long, lost son that he was.
Question —

B- Not knowing you are lost
C- Not being lost at all, but you think you are
D- You’re not lost, everyone else is
All of these are all possibilities that many of us face as we struggle through the eras of life.
We go from one thing to the next, not always knowing if the dots are connecting.
The only thing worse than being lost is,.. B- Not knowing you are lost.
People can wander and meander this blue rock for decades in search of self. Virginia Axline in her book, “Dibs, in search of self” pycho-analyzed a young boy, Dibs, using play therapy result that a lot can come from interaction in the sandbox, with ultimate results that Dibs had a classic case of autism. Carlos Castenada’s three books journey with his guru don Juan Matus resulted in a surge on college campuses across America experimenting with peyote to reach that “emptiness of self” resulting in… well, no one knows for sure,.. all is left for speculation when it comes to psychotropic drug use.
But many years ago, about 2,000, another wanderer entered the mass of this planet. He spoke in ways that many did not understand, even his closest Followers. The message he brought was not one that spoke of extremism, or even obscurity. No, the message he presented, lived, and validated others for living, was one of self”less”ness. A lesson our culture is not keen on today. He spoke of that the most valuable thing one could do for themselves as to lose themselves first. It was in losing one’s self that one found ones’ self. It seems like a riddle, “how do you find yourself? ans. – lose yourself!” Huh?? No way! That runs counter-current to all I’ve ever been taught, though, or believed. Only a loser is interested in losing,.. I’m a winner, not a loser!!
Well perhaps what’s been engrained into our culture, our thinking behaviors, our values have all been leading people in the wrong direction,.. for centuries perhaps. Since the days of so-called enlightenment, people have been using this phrase-ology to justify their selfishness. Perhaps for centuries now, we have been moving, gravitating, drifting, slipping…away from what truly is Right towards what feels or seems right.
The Bible—ooops, just dropped an egg on some of your heads there– messy I know, but you need to hear this so keep reading… that Big Black Book with some red words in it, shares some great wisdom, it’s found in the Book of Wisdom, Proverbs chapter 14, verse 6.. here’s what it shares with us today… “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death”…
We’re told that a man has to “etch his own pattern”,… wrong
We’re charged ” that a real man lives his own life and no one tells him what to do!”.. wrong again
We are told all sorts of things, but when it is all summarized into a capsule of awakening prose like this, we all have to do something with it…
In Search of… what?? Love? Acceptance? Forgiveness? Purpose? — Yeah, we all do…Spock, Dibs, Carlos, you and me.. all need it,.. all seek it,.. and ( yes in that Big Black Book) It says some will find it…. I hope you are looking for It!
