Interest’s

There’s  a TV show that is called Person of Interest. It’s premise lies in a reality where a super-computer can determine if someone is going to kill someone, or be killed.

The computer monitors people and their movement. It leads a duo with unlimited resources to come to stop them, or come to their rescue.

Along the way it filters everyone else out who is connected to them and determines if those other people are a part of the scenario( relevant) or if the are simply irrelevant.

I wonder how many people wonder if they are relevant in any way. Perhaps they ask if their life matters. Perhaps they are interested in knowing if anybody cares if they lived or died.

In life, there is a bit of wandering that takes place, we all do it. Even when we are engaged in seemingly significant matters, there is a hint lingering that whispers, “you don’t matter at all”.

Perhaps the whisper of irrelevancy comes from their past; having been told by someone that they would never amount to anything.

Perhaps that whisper comes from a string of shipwrecks and failures; and the scent of something filthy still fills nostrils.

Whatever may have beset them, forgiveness, healing, growth, and peace can be found. Those redeeming qualities, given to a person, bring about the direction needed to redeem.

In the world today there is an unhealthy rhythm that drives and forces people forward. Forward into a direction that wasn’t meant for them. There seems to be an invisible effort to get people to transform into something that is very carnal, selfish, and ungodly. Often, it reframes Godly values, making them seem to be legalistic and not very compassionate. Traditions have been re-imaged and seem to have been erased in some instances, and in others those traditions are viewed as being aging and irrelevant. But regardless of mankind’s traditions, we all have to move toards the Holy virtue of campassion.

Compassion reveals who we are, and who we are not. Both swings of the pendulum end up in the same place. Action. You cannot say you are filled with compassion unless you are moved into action. And on the other side, you cannot be labele compassionless without the active decision to not do something. Both are choices, Both are actions. Both evidence the condition of a person’s heart.

Perhaps being compasionate is of no interest to you. You see no reason to make a sacrifice or effort to help someone else. There’s your choice made.

In the Person of Interest TV show, at the end of each episode, all off the bad guys are revealed, the good guys keep doing good things, and the rest of the world keeps spinning on.

In your life, it takes effort to keep doing good things. In fact the Bible shares us these very poignant words: “Don’t grow weary in doing good” Paul writes this to the Galatians, a region in ancient Turkey (Gal 6:9). He goes on to add the bonus to your effort; “for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up!”

Great words of encouragment, and a bit of prodding, to lead us to 1) help others, 2) help our situation. So, Help the world you live in and be a Person Of Compassionate Interest.
