A new wake to wake up!

It’s 830 in the morning

The neighborhoods asleep.

it’s trash day here in suburban America,

And no yellow buses do I see.

No morning commuters,

No rushing to leave.

Just cars on my street,

As far as I can see.

The air’s a lot clearer,

From here to the Sign.

And traffic flows so well,

Since there’s no body in line.

Buildings lie empty along Main Street,

And doors remain shut.

But birds seem to be singing,

You can hear every tweet.

We stare at the TV hoping Fucci will share,

That soon we can all go,

Back out,

Into the There.

At first hit seems gloomy,

No sports games* to see,

Just reruns of Tiger,

And old UFC.

But then you see families

Up and down the streets,

Holding hands, wearing masks,

Smiling in retreat.

There’s basketballs bouncy,

And moms playing HORSE

And a few Ninja Scooters,

Out on the loose.

Bakes goods and snacks eaten,

Cheetos, Nutella, Apples sliced in two.

Card games and puzzles

Played through and through.

Lots of Hi’s from new neighbors,

that have been there all along.

And even some howling*

A new Colorado Song.

So, what will it be,

Do we sit and just wait?

Or do we rebel,

‘Gainst an enemy we can’t see?

Don’t we retain our true values,

And get to know our families and true friends?

By asking the same questions,

Hearing “fine’” once again.

Or do we advance our cause great,

Of both Caring and sharing?

Or do we launch our own cause,

just to price we are daring!

Perhaps Mr. Whipple should have

stayed on the shelf,

Instead of hogging those wipes

All for himself.

And enjoying the time,

We all wished we had.

So why in the World are we all

just so sad?

Is it because we have to choose

to choose to stay put,

And do as we’re told.

it’s really getting old t’bout!

But now we have to time, to paint, write, create.

Work in the yard, and fix, repair and paint.

Do all the things we always put off,

And spend more time with the local lot,

With our wives and our hubby’s

On a ‘stay at home’ date.

We share in a moment,

We’re on time and not late.

These times sure are trying,

They test our resolve.

Let’s prove the death virus,

By staying united, until solved.

But along the way,

No matter what course we travel.

Let’s keep waving at strangers

Trying to figure out the true day,

And enjoy our home-living.

With a hip hip hooray?

( the Sign is the Hollywood Sign/ I live in San Pedro)

( Mayor Eric Garcetti’s quote about no sporting events)

( at sundown in Colorado neighbors go outside and howl to show appreciation for first responders and medical personnel)
