Lick the Spoon

If you grew up in a home where you or one of your siblings said, “It’s not fair, they got to lick the spoon last time”, then you grew up in a great home!

As a child, one of the greatest joys in the kitchen was being allowed to lick the spoon after the batter had been mixed. It was a moment of pure delight, eagerly anticipated and savored with every lick. But there was more to this simple pleasure than just the taste of sweet batter.

Licking the spoon was a rite of passage, a sign that you were trusted in the kitchen and capable of helping with the baking. It was a small act that made you feel like a part of something bigger, like a member of the family or even a budding chef.

And perhaps most importantly, licking the spoon was a reminder that life is short and we should savor every moment. It was a chance to indulge in a simple pleasure, to enjoy the sweetness of life and to appreciate the little things that bring us joy.

As we grow older, we may not have as many opportunities to lick the spoon, but the lessons we learned in the kitchen stay with us. We continue to appreciate the value of taking the time to savor life’s simple pleasures.

So the next time you find yourself in the kitchen, take a moment to remember the joy of licking the spoon. Embrace the memories and the lessons learned, and savor every moment of life’s sweetest moments.
